CONCRETE FOR KIDS

Concrete for Kids is a community service, reach-out program to local elementary and middle schools in the Blacksburg/Christiansburg area. A group of engineering students from Virginia Tech goes to a classroom, teaches the students about civil engineering, and then getting their hands dirty and mix concrete. The following week we discuss about compression and tensile strength, and then break the concrete beams. We act as mentors, and encourage the students along the way, such as collecting the correct measurements to mixing the concrete itself.
Concrete for Kids is a fun way of developing leadership, public speaking, and confidence in making concrete.
